When optimizing websites, consideration of colors plays the most sensitive part in the process. Why? Because choosing the best AdSense background color also rely on how publishers use their sense of art in order to advertise their units and earn more clicks. The only problem is that playing too many colors may destruct the whole content of the site and the viewers’ interest.

Well, it seems like this is one of the rules most webmaster tend to oversee at first, as it isn't stated directly in their (Google Adsense's) TOS.

I asked Google this a long time ago, and I was told it was acceptable...using images as background design elements is considered different from misleadingly drawing attention I guess...

Getting people to click on your ads get harder and harder each and every day. A good method is to rotate ad blocks to reduce ad blindness.

I've heard that Google insists that background images are fine so long as the ads are clearly portrayed as ads, and clearly distinguished from the content.

Glad you've removed the Adsense background download. However, I think if you're super transparent with your readers about what you're doing, it's fine. If you're providing them relevant content (i.e. ads) that they want to click, then it should be their right.
