How to enable spell check and grammar check in WordPress

Do you blog using WordPress?

If yes, then you should try to install this really neat plugin called After the Deadline

afterthedeadline logo

After the Deadline helps us check our spelling, style and grammar, thus helping us to write better. With the plugin, we also spend less time editing and re-reading our writing, giving us more time to spend for other work.

Getting the plugin to work is really simple. After you download and install the plugin, you will need to get yourself a free API key from AfterTheDeadline.com website which you would then insert in the settings page.

Once done, you should now see a new icon on your editor when you’re authoring a new post.

So now for the test. Let me create a screenshot of how this works.

sample error screenshot

As you can see in the screenshot, typos will be underlined in Red while grammar or style errors will be underlined in Green. Just like the Word spell check function, right clicking on the errors will offer a fix suggestion.

So there you go, a cool plugin which help you proofread your WordPress blog post.

You know, all of this makes sense. I mean we want to write better, especially if we are going to be blogging with the hope of making a living online.

However, once we have the writing thing down, we do need to have deep knowledge or some product or service that people will actually purchase, and that people will actually return to be repeat customers.

Frankly I didn’t think that was possible until last year.

Following the good advice here and elsewhere, Sherry my sister was going nowhere until she became an online recruiter for Linda Christas Academy/College.

She just contacted them. They reviewed her writing style and blog, and provided her with good training for free, as well as online support for free.

Doing exactly the things you recommend here, but IN ADDITION have something people actually want, she made over $61,000 online in $2009.

Before that, all I had seen is a few cents here and there, and I was frankly getting worried about Sherry.

The reason I mention this here is that Linda Christas still has online recruiter positions open. As people spin their wheels selling software and other products that have a one time sales value and are really hard to sell, if you want to turn some folks on to Linda Christas, I’m sure they would be grateful.

It stands to reason that as soon as the MOB finds out about LC, they will be flooded with apps. But, that hasn’t happened yet.

Employers are now finding that traditional beer and football college graduates are not on average as mature or self starting as those who have earned their degrees online, so online college for the person who doesn’t want or need to wade through four years of “emotional” growth at a traditional college is proving to be just the thing for a lot of reasons.

All Sherry had to do to land her position with LC was take the initiative and contact the college.

That’s a big first step. Linda Christas isn’t out there attempting to find recruiters. If a person takes the initiative to contact them online, that tells them loads about what they will do for them and for themselves when no supervisor is there to prod. And, there is NEVER a supervisor there with Linda Christas. Sherry is an independent.

She makes a stipend of $500 for each student who enrolls in an LC program and $1,000 for each student who returns for a full curriculum.

I use after the deadline for everything but use the onsite version.

I also write for ezine so will just copy and paste after I have changed according to suggestions.

After the deadline is bookmarked on my favorites.

Great refresher. Been a while since the last time I used the spell checker, and as with many things if you don’t use it you lose it or at least forget how to use it.

    41. Melen - June 24th, 2010 at 6:12 pm

I employed this plug in to my blog. After installation I could no longer access my site. However, when I tried logging in to a different computer I was able to access my blog plug in included.

A friend advised me to run a microsoft registry cleaner to my computer, so I did. After scanning and fixing all the errors I was able to access my site again. I don’t know what happed their but I’m glad that my blog was okay.

Would be thankful to you if you will write all the hot keys for quicker spelling.

    44. Richard - July 16th, 2010 at 5:29 pm

Thanks for the write up. Without any biasing I’m able to detect misused words with 90% accuracy. Unfortunately without any biasing I also flag correctly used words as misused. This especially becomes a problem because folks are more likely to use a word correctly than incorrectly.

    45. Terry - July 21st, 2010 at 7:09 pm

Great! Finally we have a way to edit and spell check our blog posts! :)
