Akismet keeps down most of the spam (even some of the human generated spam). I don't have too many spam comments to delte - but I am sure there are more because the blog is dofollow. I am plenty willing to delete links that don't add value to our readers (links to personal blogs or websites I think are great - giving our readers a way to connect). I think Google just wants to lauch something that makes the search engine optimization more difficult to achieve.
