Money made through free Social Networking Software

Ever wondered how a social networking site like Friendster makes money? One very obvious way Friendster makes money is through Google Adsense. With at least 45 million profiles within Friendster’s network, can you imagine the number of Google ads page impressions the site gets in a day? It’s got to be massive!

I was telling myself, if only I had created a site like Friendster earlier on. Anyway, it’s not too late to do so. If there is a will, there is way. Dong my research, I found two free to download open source social networking software:

Elgg

Elgg is an open source software platform designed to allow people to easily connect and share resources. Elgg allows you to create a social network and host it on your own infrastructure, modifying the features to fit your specific needs.

AroundMe

AROUNDMe is a free software solution for anyone wishing to create a collaborative web space. You can make your own web site, design it, add web pages and drop in tools such as a wiki, blog and forum wherever you want and invite your friends! If you feel adventurous you can even run a service (like MySpace or Ning) hosting your friends web sites. This website is built using AROUNDMe!

So far I’ve discovered only two software which are free and open source. There are many others which will cost you bomb to purchase so you should try out the free ones first.
