My Internet Desktop via Protopage

Protopage is a neat web application that allows you to organize all your Internet content easily and quickly. I now set Protopage as my browser’s home page. Everytime my browser starts up, all the websites that I frequently visit are just a simple click away. No longer do I have to click on the address toolbar dropdown to search for the site to visit. Definitely saves lots of time! If you like Microsoft’s Onenote, you will love Protopage!

Protopage Features

• Ability to add multiple pages to your Protopage Site
• Add Web Page
• Add Photo -> Allows me to view my favorite picture. You will see my lobster pic later on
• Add Email Inbox -> Allows you to view unread emails in your inbox
• Add Weather -> You no longer go out unprepared for the weather
• Add Photo -> Allows me to view my favorite picture. You will see my lobster pic later on
• Add Bookmarks -> Bookmark all your favorite sites.
• Add News Feeds -> All my favorite blogs and sites
• Add Sticky Note -> I put my To Do list here
• Drag and drop all of the above features allowing easy UI customization
• Easy configuration, just double click and edit away

Protopage PROS

• It’s a dashboard view of all your Internet activities.
• Saves you time and clicks, thus prolonging your mouse’s life
• In case of hard disk crashes, you still have links and bookmarks to all your favorite sites. This better not happen to any of us!
• If you’re on someone elses machine, you can be equally effective since most of your valuable information are stored with Protopage.
• Allows you to view your Gmail inbox without having to log in all the time.
• Ability to make your page public or private. For example, you can put links to your dodgy sites in the private page. Haha!
• Ability to customize the colors of your pages.

Protopage CONS

• Can’t configure Protopage to read Yahoo email, since Yahoo does not allow POP3 access. Unless you have the paid version of Yahoo Mail. Not really Protopage’s fault though.
• No task management capability on the calendar.
• Slight learning curve required of about 20-30 minutes testing the application. When you get a hang of it, it’s wonderful.
• If you’re dependant on it, and there’s no Internet access, it could be a problem.
• And finally, you can’t put adsense ads on it.
