Some really good WordPress + SEO tips by Matt Cutts
Are you currently blogging using WordPress? Looks like WordPress is so user friendly our friend has got a tattoo for it. Cute.. and good job buddy! Image by danpeerflix.
If you’re a WordPress fan too, then you should really check out this presentation by Matt Cutts, Head of Google’s Web Spam Team.
In his Wordcamp presentation, Matt mentioned and provided many good pointers, examples and tips for WordPress users.
These are some that I really liked:
- In order to do well with your blog, you need to write about stuffs that you love – DAILY. This is really true because it’s really difficult to write about something we are unfamiliar with. It feels like forcing myself to drink Dr. Pepper.
- Changing the URL to rank for more keywords. See an example on this post. The title is Some really good WordPress + SEO tips by Matt Cutts while the URL is some-really-good-wordpress-seo-tips-by-a-google-engineer. See how I changed Matt Cutts to Google Engineer on my URL. Before this presentation, I have never changed my urls coz I thought Google wouldn’t like it. But after the presentation, I actually tested it on a few of my other blogs and it did work. I got ranked for both keywords in the title and in the URL.
- Plugins Matt Cutts use. I learned about Cookies for Comments.
You can view the presentation on WordCampTV or even visit Matt Cutts post at Straight from Google: What You Need to Know

About the SEO-friendly URL: wouldn’t it improve further if it removed common words such as “a” or “by”, to make the URL more keyword-dense?
I often change the url to get quality keywords, and i like to write about things that i love. I appreciate your help!

SEO is so difficult to me, I don’t get to use it properly for my website’s needs. Some of those tips are great. But the most important is not to know all the possibilities but to know which ones are the best for your niche.

i don’t really use WP but i guess seo tips apply everywhere.
“In order to do well with your blog, you need to write about stuffs that you love – DAILY.” This is so true. You can never touch and move readers if you, yourself, are not convinced with what you have written. Learn to write on topics that truly matter to you. At the end of the day, it is all about having that self-fulfillment and joy with what you have accomplished for your blog.

Moving On Up is a local Florida company that performs interstate East Coast moves for home and office. We are currently using Blogspot to direct traffic to our long distance movers site. Is WordPress any better than Blogspot?
great tips thanks for sharing keep posting
Using targeted keyword phrases in URLs is an effective way to help your rankings on those keywords. This works particularly well when the exact keyword phrase – and nothing else – is used. This method provides a nice jump on rankings right out of the gate, as opposed to tactics like link building which take time to have the greatest impact.
It’s really hard to write for a blog on a daily basis, have you ever heard of the 80/20 rule? Blogging daily would not help you achieve this because blogging is more like work.
I suppose you could use an Auto poster and write or buy the content ahead of time.
@ Moving On Up.
The paid version of WordPress is 500% better than blogger.
Thanks for the seo tips
t is right that we should write the post that we love. It is difficult to write about we are not familiar with the topic. Google also like natural content.
Do you really need to write daily? I could do that but they will be mostly short posts that don’t have much substance..however if I write weekly I could do very long, substantial posts. What would the difference be?
I hadn’t thought about using a different url to the title. It might help you get listed for different keywords, but surely having the same keywords in the title and the url would be better for the SEO of that work?
I have been looking for word press and SEO tips. Thanks for sharing this useful and important information.

I’m looking for a reliable opt-in plugin for wordpress. I’ll be incorporating aweber email at a later date, but I need a quick fix while I generate my list. I tried subscribe2, but it won’t show in my sidebar. Any thoughts?
Funny thing is that stuff that Cutts say that work, are usually not that powerful, but they make a difference. Stuff that he says doesn’t work, kicks ass. Think about that for a change and why does he do that.
Nice information I’m testing out the cookies for comments plugin and am very impressed so far!
