Step by step guide to set up an online flash game site
This post attempts to show you step by step how to easily set up an online flash game site just like the one below.

I will cut the crap and begin to reveal how to create an online flash game site just like the one at SleekPage.com.
Steps to create an online flash game site
- Just go to eBay and purchase the scripts for this flash game site. Hahaha… and you must have thought I’m a hardcore game programmer.
- On the eBay site, you can either choose to bid or buy the codes for $5. Read through the site to find out more about what you’re about to bid or buy.
- Assuming you’ve purchased the scripts, you’re now ready to set up the flash games script on your site.
- You will be sent a url to download the scripts.
Download the scripts
- Download the first link which is the PHP Game Website Script (72.1MB)
- You can choose to download the second link later. It’s just a big database of 1300 Games for you to add in. Wow!
- Proceed by unzipping the the first link. You should see the following files.
Set up the environment on your local machine
- The requirements to run the game site is PHP, mySQL and Apache. This is the so called LAMP environment.
- If your machine is not set up with this environment, simply download and install XAMPP. XAMPP is an easy to install Apache distribution containing MySQL, PHP and Perl.
- Once your environment is ready you’re ready to set up the game database.
Set up the game database
- Open the file allgamesbackup.sql and copy the content of the file.
- Launch PHPMyAdmin from XAMPP console.
- Create a database called GamesDB.
- Click on the SQL tab.
- Paste the content of allgamesbackup.sql to the textarea.
- Now for the moment of truth… click GO! Your games database will be populated with games. Yeehaa! Games database done sir!
- To check if the sql script went well, click on the database GamesDB, you should see four tables.
- Categories
- Games
- GamesToday
- Playstats
Set up the php scripts
- Go to your htdocs folder. This is where you should place all php scripts.
- Copy all files and folders (screenshot above) into the htdocs folder.
- You now need to configure some settings. Launch the file db.cnf.php
- This is where you put in your database’s username, password, host and its name.
- Once that’s done, you should be ready to view your very own Games Site.
- Launch your browser. The url of your site should be http://localhost/gamescript150games/index.php
- Assuming everything went well you should see your games site.
- Wait a sec… why does the top looks like this?

Overall game site design
- To modify the top banner, open the file index.php and search for the script [div class="head"]. This is where you should put your top banner codes. You can also place any form of advertisement here. In the case of Sleekpage, I placed adsense code but blue links.
- To change the overall colors of the site, open the file styles.css
- If you need to change a specific color but do not know where to change it in the styles.css, you can try this trick!
- Download ColorPic. It’s a free download. After installing it, what you do is select the color that you want to change. Colorpic will reveal to you the color code, for example #FF0000.
- Go to styles.css and search for #FF0000 and replace it with the color code that you like. Save the css then refresh the page. You should see the colors changed.
- To modify the right sidebar, open the file index.php search for the script [div class="right"]
- To modify the footer, open the file footer.inc.php
- To modify the main content of game site, open the file templates.tpl.php
Upload to web host 
- The moment of truth…. to upload all these hard work heavily modified files to your web hosting.
- What? You’re telling me you don’t have a web host and domain name? That’s cool mate… read on.
Where to get a reliable web host
- I got to tell you that Sleekpage.com is safely and reliably hosted on… Bluehost.com
- There are two links here. You decide which to click on Bluehost.com [No Affiliate Link attached] or Bluehost.com [With my affiliate link on]

I apologize for the shameless self promotion, but it’s important for you to know.
Where to get a free web host
- If you only need to host this game site, then you probably don’t need to host 6 domains. You can host for free!
- Go to Awardspace.com. They let you host php and mysql for free. This is an Awardspace review I wrote sometime back.
- You will need to try setting up the online games site on awardspace. I cannot confirm that this will work. Previously I hosted WordPress and Forums on awardspace without much problems. Just that the site sometimes go down. But hey… it’s free.
Conclusion
Phew… this is a long post.
Once your site is up, you will need to drive traffic to your site. Otherwise it will be tough for you to make some money from the site. You first goal would be to earn at least $5 for you to obtain your return on investment. Depending on which hosting and domain you went for, you’ll probably want to cover that. Anyway, getting traffic to your game site and monetizing it is a big topic by itself. So… good luck.

This is a really nice tutorial for your basic arcade, i have one suggestion though. If your going to try to actually make money off of it and have very intense plans for your arcade. I highly recommend looking at much more advanced scripts such as phparcadescript and onarcade. Even gamesitescript if you really want something nice to work with. I can recommend phparcadescript myself because that is the script I use currently. They have the biggest community base I have seen so far and offer many many modifications and support along with the script. Still though, this is a very tutorial for your average arcade starter! Just a comment on how to monetize a game site. Because the traffic that you drive to your site is usually just there to play a game, you want to attract their attention and text ads for these types of people are usually not enough. This is where you would want to display image based ads to get your ads noticed. Even better, show ads and banners the allow the users to get involved like those ads that allow you to shoot a target or something similar.
